Midwifery Care

Crown OB/Gyn is proud to offer midwifery services for women who are looking for minimally invasive prenatal care and a unique personal birthing experience.

The word midwife means, “with woman”. Our certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are experts in women’s health, providing support during pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond. Their comprehensive care is dedicated to supporting the normal processes of childbirth to ensure the best possible birthing outcomes for mother and baby.

We believe our practice is unique in that we offer midwifery care for birth in the hospital setting. This affords us the advantage of also having our Crown physicians readily available to care for emergencies that may arise. Our doctors are very supportive of our midwifery practice and if they are needed to assist in your care, the midwives will remain with you through your birth so that you will always have a familiar person with you.

What is a Certified Nurse-Midwife?

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) are unique, nurturing healthcare professionals specializing in safe, alternative approaches to your birthing experience beginning with preconception care and family planning service and including prenatal and postpartum care. CNMs also provide an array of primary healthcare services to women including annual gynecological exams and menopausal management.

Certified nurse-midwives are advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) backed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. To become a CNM, registered nurses must graduate from a master’s or higher-level nurse-midwifery education program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) and pass the national Certified Nurse-Midwife Examination through the American Midwifery Certification Board. All CNMs must hold state licensure.

Crown OB/Gyn Midwives offer the following services:

  • Prenatal care, labor support, and delivery

  • Postpartum care

  • Annual exams and pap smears

  • Birth control options and consultation

  • Complete gynecological care
